In Pokkén Tournament, you’re set on the path to be the best by your trusted advisor Nia. She’ll walk you through the game basics and by default will provide a running commentary with tips during battle. You can turn off her tips on the options page, but that’s not all. You can also unlock a total of 7 new outfits (bringing her total to 8, including her starting ensemble) for her to wear, as well as several different cheers to assist you in battle. The cheers will come into effect after after the first fight, in between battles to give you a special boost for the next bout.

Pokkén Tournament, Nia
Here’s a list of Nia’s cheers, what they do, and how to unlock them:

  • Standard – If you lose, Synergy Gauge will increase, and both support gauges will be pushed to MAX! The effect is much smaller if you win, but this is still a great fallback to have! (Active Round: from Second Round onward). This is available from the start.
  • Synergy Focused – Your Synergy Gauge will increase each round, regardless of whether you win or lose. Worth noting that this has no effect on Support Gauges, however! (Active Round: Every Round). This is unlocked by winning the Green League.
  • Pressure Focused – Greatly increases Synergy Gauge for the final round, regardless of whether you just won or lost! Comes highly recommended for Pokémon that have trouble building Synergy Gauge. (Active Round: Final Round). This is unlocked by winning the Green League.
  • Support Focused – Support Gauges increase to MAX regardless of whether you just won or lost! Worth noting that this has no effect on Synergy Gauge, however! (Active Round: from Second Round onward). This is unlocked by winning the Blue League.
  • Special – Increases Synergy Gauge if you win, and pushes Support Gauge to MAX is you lose! You’ll need a solid strategy to make good use of the extreme effect! (Active Round: from Second Round onward). This is unlocked by winning the Red League.
  • Whimsical – The Cheer Effect you receive will change every round. You might win big! Or not! Are you feeling lucky? (Active Round: Every Round). This is unlocked by winning the Chroma League.
