These social network things are popular, it seems.
Nintendo’s new smartphone app, Miitomo, has shot to the top of the US iOS App Store chart in less than 24 hours.
NeoGAF member James Scott posted an image from his phone showing the app sitting proudly atop the charts:
Miitomo is Nintendo’s first foray into the world of smartphones. The social app is clearly proving popular, having managed to reach the top spot on the charts in under 24 hours in the US, while accomplishing the same feat in Japan in less than two days.
Market-tracking firm Sensor Tower estimates that by reaching the number one spot already, the app could surpass 200,000 downloads on the iPhone alone after 24 hours on sale, as that is typically what the number one app does on average. These figures don’t even take into account Android devices, which are likely to pile on the downloads.
Nintendo’s entrance into the smartphone market is part of their initiative to expand their audience, which they also hope to do with their new, mysterious ‘dedicated games platform’ currently known only as NX.
