Classic Pokemon 3DS Re-Releases Set eShop Records

Pokémon, blue, red, myths, rumors

It’s time to relive the Pokemon journey.

Classic 2D Pokemon games Red, Blue and Yellow were re-released on the 3DS eShop on Feb. 27th and have proved to be a massive success, breaking several records.

Re-released as part of the 20th anniversary of Pokemon celebrations, it appears the three games have sold incredibly well. When the sales from all three are combined, they set a new first week eShop sales record.

In a statement to GameSpot, Nintendo said: “With classic graphics and timeless gameplay, these versions of the original Pokemon adventure are proving to be a popular way for fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series.”

While Nintendo didn’t share any specific numbers, it does reflect the continuing popularity of the Pokemon franchise, which has continually thrived for the last 20 years.

The next installment in the Pokemon series is Pokken Tournament, an arcade-style fighting game due for release on the Wii U this month.

The next generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Sun and Moon, were also recently revealed, though only the logos have been shown officially. Some concept art for the games was glimpsed during the Nintendo Direct in which they were revealed.
