Announced at The Americas Winter Championship series today by the Hearthstone development team, the game’s next expansion will be Whispers of The Old Gods. This expansion will add 134 new cards to the Hearthstone collection and is tentatively set for a late April/early May release date.
Based on the few cards shown so far, it appears that this expansion will take some of the older minions in the game and retool them under the idea that they have been corrupted by the Old Gods. This may be used to replace some of the cards that will be lost in the game’s new Standard format which will not allow cards introduced by Curse of Naxxramas and Goblins vs. Gnomes.
The other major card reveal revolved around the Old God C’Thun. Not only will C’Thun be a new legendary card in the game, but there will be a series of minion cards all designed to buff C’Thun’s stats before you even play him.
Every Hearthstone user will receive three free packs from the upcoming expansion when it releases and will be guaranteed to receive C’Thun among those cards. Those wishing to pre-order their cards for the expansion will be able to do so when the game’s next patch launches on March 14th, which is also when Hearthstone will finally receive long-awaited additional deck slots as well as a new deck maker formula tool.
More cards from Whispers of the Old Gods are set to be revealed in the coming weeks, so be sure to check in as new information becomes available.
