A NeoGAF user by the name of Trevelyan9999 recently posted some new Nintendo details on NeoGAF that if true, reveals a little about the next Zelda game, and Nintendo’s next console, the mysterious NX.
According to the rumor, the next Legend of Zelda game may be a dual release. The game would release on both the Wii U and NX at the same time later on this year. That would mean the next Zelda game which is currently in-development, could be a launch title for the Nintendo NX. The rumor also mentions that besides Zelda, the other launch games are hidden for now.
He goes on to say that his “verified source from Nintendo has informed and shown proof of an internal US marketing budget and scheduling overview for 2016 focusing on Wii U and 3DS, with key parts highlighting The Legend of Zelda NX to be a holiday 2016 release either same day at Zelda Wii U or shortly after during the Nintendo NX holiday 2016 launch window.”
Before anyone gets too worked up about this, keep in mind that this is just a rumor. What gives this one a teensy bit more of credibility than usual is the a claim by a Neogaf moderator that Trevelyan9999’s source, is in a place to say what is being claimed. Saying: “when we ‘verify’ sources, what we do is get a name to the source and verify that they are in a position that could plausibly know the things that they say they know. We do not verify what they’re claiming, just that they are theoretically in a place to be claiming the things they are.”
So translation: It’s a rumor that could be true or could be not true, but the claim at least isn’t coming from an eight year old who has an uncle that works at Nintendo. It’s up to you whether or not you take stock in this claim. There’s no way to see if this will end up materializing this way until we get an official confirmation from Nintendo or just see for ourselves down the road.
All we know for sure is that there is no confirmed release date for the NX, and same is to be said for that in-development console Legend of Zelda game. If the rumor turns out to be true, it wouldn’t be unprecedented. Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess back in 2006 on both the GameCube and the Wii at roughly around the same time.
