Celeste, 500,000 copies sold, new levels

Celeste Celebrates Over 500,000 Copies Sold and Teases New Levels

Following hot on the trail of A Hat in Time’s recent success in selling 1 million copies, depression defying platformer Celeste has just reached its own impressive milestone having sold over 500,000 copies.

To celebrate this success, the titular Matt of Matt Makes Games revealed that new levels are on their way, and they’re going to be tough. Really tough.

The fiendish platformer, the likes of which we’d not seen since Super Meat Boy, is “a game about climbing a mountain” in both figurative and literal ways. Poetically, Celeste deftly discusses anxiety and depression through the genre of 2D Platforming, something that’s not easily done.

Celebrated for the seamless way it melds ruthless yet satisfying gameplay that demands perfection with the heartfelt way it deals with these issues, Celeste’s mountain stands as an intrinsic metaphor that many gamers have delighted in tackling.

It’s a sign of gratitude from the devs who never expected Celeste to reach out and resonate the way it did, a way of saying farewell to fans with new content penned for an early 2019 release.

We can also expect to hear what’s next for the developers behind the title next year as well, an already impressive portfolio lying in their wake as the creators of similarly styled, party pixel-platformer Towerfall. With that kind of platforming pedigree, there’s surely a lot to look forward to on the horizon.
