Rabid fans will remember that.

Well this is certainly an interesting development.

Following this weekend’s explosive new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix has revealed in a new press release that the highly anticipated title will be released in multiple parts. Here’s the exact quote.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.

Many fans are assuming this means the remake will be an episodic release, similar to this year’s Life is Strange, which Square Enix published. The term “multi-part series” is fairly vauge, however, and could also be similar to past game series like .hack and Xenosaga. Could remakes of spin-off titles Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus be on the cards as well?

Nobody can say for sure what the deal is until Square Enix makes a more definitive statement on the matter. When that happens we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, how would you feel about playing an expansive, fairly free-roam JRPG like Final Fantasy VII as an episodic release? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
