Xbox One Achievements Due to Change in Significant Ways

Get ready for some changes to come to achievements on Xbox One.

Are you a big achievement hunter or do you prefer to focus only on a small number of games for fun? Whatever your play style as an Xbox One gamer, Microsoft is looking to help “celebrate” your identity as a gamer by altering its achievement system and implementing “fundamental” changes.

When speaking to Windows Central, Xbox corporate Vice President Mike Ybarra commented that
Microsoft is actually working on “something” right now that will end up changing the company’s approach to achievements. What that thing is right now is rather unclear, but Ybarra states that it has a lot to do with the way people’s achievements are shared with others, and what defines them as gamers.

“We’re going to go big in the area of letting people show off and represent their gaming history and the type of gamer that they are, far more than we do with Gamerscore,” Ybarra stated during the interview. He wasn’t clear on what the company plans to do as far as “going big” but did specify that the new system isn’t meant to replace achievements the way we know them right now.

It’s not clear exactly how things will change going forward, but offering players new ways to share their accomplishments, preferences, and skill in certain games can only be a good thing. Steam’s profile pages come to mind, where you can display various totals of games, certain achievements, and more. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when the next update comes about, when we’ll know more about the system Ybarra proposed.
