It’s a big launch weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, especially for the PlayStation 4 which is the new favorite console of Activision for their annual FPS franchise. However, many PS4 owners are having issues downloading the latest update, which is preventing them from playing online. You can tell if you’re missing the latest update by seeing which version you have in the upper right hand corner of the Black Ops III main menu. If it says 220.127.116.11, that’s no good.
If you’re getting the above error (dubbed the ABC error), your best bet is to restart your PlayStation 4 console and Black Ops III, and see if that triggers the update. This has worked for some players, however because of likely server congestion, this doesn’t happen right away for everyone and you may need to wait some time for it to trigger.
According to the official Call of Duty Black Ops III status checker, at the time of this writing the PS4’s server status is “Not Good.” Meaning: “Online services are degraded. Users in some regions may experience connectivity issues.” Xbox One and Xbox 360 servers are “Good” while PlayStation 3 and PC servers are also “Not Good.”
I’ve seen some pretty funky things myself while waiting for the update to load/complete (or whatever it’s trying to do). Including the ABC error above, I also got to enjoy watching this update (see above) count down into the negatives. Does that mean it’s removing Black Ops III or something? Downloading Black Ops II? Who knows? Either way I have no idea what’s going on.
Whatever the case is, I like other PS4 Black Ops III fans, will have to wait it out until everything is resolved. Have you experienced this ABC error as well on the PS4? Also, if you’re a PC player experiencing the same, or a different issue let us know in the comments.
