Just yesterday DICE and Electronic Arts announced an open beta for the return of one of the most acclaimed Star Wars game series, Battlefront. The beta will run from October 8-12, and it will be free for anyone on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC to join.
Today, EA said a little bit more on the nitty gritty details of the upcoming beta. The file size will be around 7GB on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However the PC version will be closer to 11 GB, and will also support pre-loading through Origin starting at 1 AM PDT on Wednesday, October 7. The console versions will unfortunately not support any kind of pre-load.
Additionally, EA has confirmed that the Battlefront beta will allow players to progress characters up to level five. At this point leveling will be capped, but players can still unlock items within the beta itself. No level cap has been confirmed for the full release of the game. It should be noted however, that any progress made in the beta will not carry over to the full release.
EA wants to stress that because the beta is open to everyone on all platforms, players may run into “interruptions” during gameplay as DICE tests the online infrastructure. If you missed the memo before, here’s the three modes that EA has confirmed for the Battlefront beta.
Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.
During the course of the beta, players can also check out the game’s website to see a “companion” experience called Base Command. This feature will allow you to earn in-game credits that can be used to unlock weapons and Star Cards for the full game.
Star Wars Battlefront will launch on November 17, just over a month before the release of Disney’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens at theaters in December. Are you excited for the Battlefront beta? How much time will you be spending with it over the five days? Let us know in the comments.
