In an interview with Gamecore, during the ChinaJoy entertainment event this week, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer has announced that the Xbox One and Microsoft will go forward with having less third-party deals and more exclusive first-party content.
What this means is, Xbox will not solely focus on multi-platform titles and will be primarily focusing on Xbox One exclusives like Halo, Gears of War, and more.
“My strategy is more around our own first-party franchises, and investing in franchises that we own, and probably fewer exclusive deals for third-party content,” Spencer said.
Spencer’s plan for focus on Xbox exclusivity is already seen, as Gamescom is this upcoming next week and will show off some future Xbox Ones titles, such as Scalebound, Crackdown, and Quantum Break.
“This year, the fact that we’re shipping Halo 5, Gears of War, Forza 6, Fable, we can only do that and build that best lineup we’ve ever seen really on the back of franchises that we own. It’s great to have Tomb Raider as a part of our lineup, but investing in first-party, you’ll see more of that at Gamescom next week, is really core to our strategy,” Spencer added.
