One of the most revered aspects of Killer Instinct is its soundtrack, which is mostly the work of composer Mick Gordon. Each character has their own unique theme that is more than a simple loop; Gordon’s compositions are 20 minute songs that change dynamically in response to the action on screen. Killer Instinct’s soundtrack is both catchy and a real innovation in video game music.
After contributing to Killer Instinct for two years, Mick Gordon is moving on to new projects. He thanked both fans and developers of the game in a post on his Facebook page.
I’d like to shout out a massive heart-felt thanks to Double Helix Games, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy for allowing me to share in this truly amazing experience. Speaking as a fan, we’ve all been incredibly lucky to have these groovy people behind the development of KI.
And to you, the fans that have made all this hard work and late-nights worthwhile, I thank you from the bottom of my linker-parry-windkick-quartercircle-monster-combo-heart. I’ve absolutely adored every tweet, forum post, email, FB message, letter, handshake, hug and fistbump. Your endless support and encouragement is the driving force behind the Killer Instinct sound.
For season 3 of Killer Instinct, Atlas Plug and Celldweller will be the new composers. Their first song for the series is the theme for guest character Rash from Battletoads, which can be streamed now on SoundCloud. Atlas Plug and Celldweller have composed music for Dead Rising 3, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, and Crackdown.
Mick Gordon’s contributions to were consistently impressive, but the future for Killer Instinct music looks bright.
