A Massive Update Is Coming to Splatoon This August

Who doesn’t love free content?

Hope you’re ready for some more free content, because the My Nintendo Blog has reported that Splatoon is getting a massive update on Aug 6, which includes new game types, two new weapon types, a level cap increase, and over 40 pieces of new equipment.

Starting with the level cap increase, once this update is released and downloaded Splatoon‘s level cap will be increased from 20 all the way up to level 50. Also, Ranked Battles will see a rank increase from A+ up to both S and S+.

Those of you looking for new matchmaking options will be happy to hear that the upcoming update will add two new options called Squad Battle and Private Battle. Squad Battle will allow you to team up with your friends for some ranked splatting, while Private Battle will finally allow you to make your own private and fully customizable matches with up to eight friends.

As if the above wasn’t enough for one update, the Aug 6 update will also introduce the Slosher and the Splating weapons. Described as a bucket-like weapon, the Slosher weapon will allow you to hurl ink ahead of you and you can even angle it to get at players who are hiding behind walls or are above you. Meanwhile, the new Splating weapon will be a new charged based weapon inspired by Gatling guns, so you won’t be able to spray blindly with them.

While this is going to be a large update, you can look forward to more free content in the upcoming months. According to My Nintendo News:

Following this update, more content will continually roll out through the rest of the summer and into autumn, including the Rainmaker Ranked Battle mode, additional maps and new weapons.
