Fans of Shenmue received a huge surprise while watching the Sony press conference at E3 last week. Game creator Yu Suzuki announced that Shenmue 3 was in the works and that it needed help on its Kickstarter page to get the game funded.
After the reveal at E3, Suzuki answered a few questions in a Reddit interview, and stated that the entire Shenmue story consisted of a total of 11 chapters, with the first 5 chapters already delivered in Shenmue 1 and 2, and the manga. Suzuki also mentioned that he “originally planned for there for be four or five games to the series.”
This means that unless Shenmue 3 ends up being an incredibly huge game in scope, we’ll probably end up getting another Shenmue game after that.
For now, let’s just worry about getting Shenmue 3 out. You can check out the game’s Kickstarter page here.
