In a recent interview with Gamespot, creative director Todd Howard revealed a few new details about Fallout 4, the upcoming open world RPG from Bethesda.
Before actually talking about Fallout 4, Howard made mention of Fallout Shelter, their latest mobile game that has become incredibly popular since it was first released last Sunday. Fallout Shelter topped Candy Crush as the number one app in the world, and even grossed more than it within a week of its release. When talking about inspiration for their games, Howard said Fallout Shelter was largely inspired by games such as XCOM.
With regards to Fallout 4 though, Howard mentioned GTA V as the largest inspiration for the development team. According to Howard, “it puts you in its world and it makes you its director. It says yes to the player a lot, and that’s what we try to do. It’s just a phenomenal game.”
Howard ends off the interview by saying that the game’s world is “the most important thing” to the development team, and that they’re always focused on making sure that it’s fun to explore – true to the essence of the previous Fallout games.
Fallout 4 will be released this November.
