The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets a New Hyper-Violent Trailer

“It’s just a flesh wound!”

The launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is about a week and a half away, and the developers don’t want you to forget about it.

In particular they don’t want you to forget about how damn gory the game can be. While other trailers and gameplay videos have shown how dark and violent the world of the Witcher 3 is, this one frames the visceral combat with a lovingly brutal cinematic eye. Dismemberment and copious amounts of blood have always been a part of the game, but here we can see Geralt literally cleaving people in twain like he’s The Hound from Game of Thrones.

We also get a good look at the scale and design on some of the macabre monsters you will be slaying. Among them are some kind of hollowed out fire beast, some dragon-like creatures, a half zebra half moose jakalope thing, and an old fashioned cyclops. Perhaps the coolest thing in the trailer comes right at the end, where we get another look at combat as Ciri — the second playable character. We see her teleporting around the battlefield and alleviating some enemies of their limbs with a spell that the developers have called, “Blink.”

The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt comes out May 19th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
