Oculus Rift PC Specs Are out and You're Gonna Need an Upgrade Honey

No mediocre setups allowed.

Oculus VR has published the Oculus Rift’s recommended PC specs. They say that for the “full Rift” experience, you’re going to want to have the following PC:

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

“The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration. Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR’s success, as developers can optimize and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development.”

Right now, an NVIDIA GTX 970 can run you $350 on Newegg, while Intel i5-4590 is $200 also on Newegg. The Oculus Rift’s chief architect goes further into detail about the recommended system specifications in a separate blog post. What do you think about all of this? Will you be getting an Oculus Rift? Let us know in the comments!
