San Fransisco Painstakingly Recreated in Cities: Skylines

Armchair city planners, prepare to have your minds blown when you see the near entire map of of San Francisco modeled by one particular Reddit member in Paradox Interactive’s Cities: Skylines.

The extraordinary recreation is astonishingly detailed, featuring many of the city by the bay’s most famous attractions, and some of its more subtle amusements. This virtual San Francisco began humbly as a 1:1:5 scale map of the terrain, but the project rapidly expanded, so much so that it forced the creator – known on Reddit as Ixohoxi – to leave out some key locals.

“I had to cut out many streets because it won’t fit with the space.” Ixohoxi revealed on his imgur page. “Lots of blocks have odd shape. And since the starting tile is the Dogpatch, it was difficult to grid accurately for the rest of the city.”

Imperfections aside, the amount of detail that is included is still rather mind-blowing. Admittedly however, not everyone is familiar with the sights of San Francisco, so viewing the Google Maps interactive satelite image, alongside Ixohoxi’s virtual version we’ve provided may help you appreciate the marvel that this project truly is.

If Ixohoxi’s impressive recreation has you inspired to try your hand at Cities: Skylines, or even at modelling your own home town in-game, check out our beginners guide that will help you get started in no time.
