Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

Vampire the masquerade bloodlines

There was a time in which everything was about vampires. We’re not talking about the newer Twilight ones, the grown-up kind of vampires; beings tied to the night, constantly moving dangerously around flimsy moral lines and questioning their very lack of mortality. Well, if you were a gamer in those years way before the zombie boom, you probably loved Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.

As a spiritual sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption, Bloodlines came to our lives as a much more complex and enjoyable video game take on White Wolf’s live action role-playing game, and turned out awesome. Instead of a more traditional RPG approach, this delivery by Troika Games turned to action-based gameplay and took players deeper into the World of Darkness.

With a completely modern setting, the differences with its vampiric predecessor were so huge many even forgot it existed. Bloodlines allowed players to create their own character, fiddle with vampire clans, be tangled in the Masquerade politics, and even make some moral choices. The game’s world was full of special details, side-quests and weird NPCs, all of which could be enjoyable from a first-person point of view.

Now, love for this game alone is far from being the only reason why Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines would make a great candidate for a remake. To be honest, this over-the-top vampire action-RPG had tons of bugs and visual glitches, which actually hindered the gameplay experience rather than helped it. You only needed to go as far as the intro cinematics to understand how broken some things were.

Additionally, since this title was a lot about visuals and aesthetics, imagining that dark, extremely sexy with a touch of ridiculous Los Angeles remade with current technical capabilities is definitely exciting. Moreover, a combat system overhaul, additional clans and powers, and deeper NPC interaction would really seal the deal. We are probably not alone in our willingness to spend a lot of money to get some of that good old vampire magic back with this remake.
