Last night on Twitter, Wario64 pointed out that the Facebook pages for Lord of the Rings, Batman, Lego Movie, and Ghostbusters were all teasing something. Each one had a picture of a Lego version of a famous character from each series standing in front of a portal, followed by a paper note simply saying “Do not open until 4.9.15.” It looks like that box has been opened a little bit ahead of schedule.
The Lego Dimensions starter pack has been leaked on the Lego Reddit, and it looks like the brick people are going the way of Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Like those games, the starter pack will net you the Lego Dimensions game, Gateway building bricks (the “portal”), 3 Lego minifigures–Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle–and a Lego Batmobile vehicle. All of this will cost you $99. As for the story making this possible? Well, according to this summary:
When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO® worlds, different characters from DC Comics™, Lord of the Rings™ and the LEGO® Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman™, Gandalf™ and Wyldstyle™ bravely jump into the vortex to rescue their friends and fight to save all of LEGO humanity.
Let your creativity be your guide as you build the LEGO Gateway to adventure, journeying through unexpected worlds and teaming-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with characters you never thought you could see in a LEGO game together, using vehicles and weapons you never thought possible. LEGO Bad Copâ„¢ driving the DeLorean Time Machineâ¦why not?! The Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Womanâ„¢…yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.
The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is all you need to begin – build your base and embark on a fantastic quest.
The official reveal will be later today, but it looks like one thing is clear: you can never take your kids to the game section of the store ever again without them demanding you buy them some Lego minifigures.
