When Evolve came out the internet threw up its collective arms and screamed at publishers Take-Two (who wholly own 2K Games and Rockstar Games among others). The amount of DLC offered at launch was absolutely immense and many seemed off-put by the practice, vowing not to buy the game in protest. Take-Two president Karl Slatoff seemed to still feel that Evolve had a successful launch though.
Mr. Slatoff was quoted at the Piper Jaffray Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Conference saying “We’re very pleased. We’ve had an incredibly successful commercial launch with Evolve. We’re very happy where things are going, particularly on the digital side.” He even continued on to say that there was a strong correlation between sales and season pass purchases, meaning that there were a lot of people who bought the game and then purchased the season pass close together. He didn’t, however, give any specific numbers.
Dough Creutz, an analyst who works at Cowen & Company. was rather more reserved in his projections for the sales. The company’s analysis let it to expect sales closer to 300,000 physical copies sold in the United States throughout February. He even went on to say that Cowen & Company predicted that digital and physical sales would reach about 1.5 million in the first year. That would still be a good figure for Evolve to hit, but it wouldn’t be likely to get close to what Take-Two expected.
