Sony is teaming up with ooVoo, a free video chat and messaging service, to bring video chat capabilities to the PS4. Despite the feature being available from the Xbox One through the Skype app, Sony still has no video chat feature on their console and are hoping that, by bringing ooVoo on board, they can provide an equally, if not better, video chat service.

ooVoo offers video chat services on PC, Mac, and mobile devices offering chat rooms for up to 12 people. Users can also make calls from their PC or Mac to landlines and mobiles for free. ooVoo is available for Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone, Mac OS X, Android, iOS, and Facebook

Currently, ooVoo is working with the PS4 camera to offer video chat and are also looking into streaming YouTube and Twitch videos into the chat as well.  Messages via text will also be available.

The service is expected to land on the PS4 “late Q2.”
