The latest content update for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Before the Fall Part 1 (otherwise known as patch 2.5), has received a new ten minute long trailer. As is the case with these major patches, players can expect three dungeons (two hard modes and one brand new dungeon) among other new quests and updates. Wanderer’s Palace and Ampador Keep will get the hard mode treatment, while the new dungeon is titled Keeper of the Lake.
Before the Fall Part 1, as its name implies, is a two-parter (story line wise) and its conclusion, Before the Fall Part 2, will be the final part of the 2.0 series of quests before the first expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, ushers in the 3.0 era. Although details on Part 2 are scarce, there will be some kind of major public event bridging 2.0 and 3.0 together just as the calamity bridged the original (and terrible) version of FFXIV (1.0) to the now MUCH better version of the game, A Realm Reborn (2.0).
Final Fantasy VII fans will notice something very familiar in this new trailer. FFXIV is getting its very own version of the classic FFVII Golden Saucer. The trailer shows off a preview of the Manderville Golden Saucer, as it will be known in FFXIV, and will feature the fan favorite card game from Final Fantasy VIII Triple Triad, Chocobo Racing and other mini-games. However, the Manderville Golden Saucer won’t be in the 2.5 patch proper. Instead it will be added in a follow up update (2.51), set to take place in between 2.5 and the next patch, Before the Fall Part 2.
But wait there’s even more past Final Fantasy throwbacks in patch 2.5 for you! The final section of the Crystal Tower, The World of Darkness, will be released and if the last two parts (Labyrinth of the Ancients, Syrcus Tower) are any indication, it will be chock full of Final Fantasy III shout outs. If THAT isn’t enough Final Fantasy for you, the trailer also shows off some footage of the new Odin fight.
Before the Fall Part 1 (patch 2.5) is due out on Jan. 20 for all versions of FFXIV (PS3, PS4 and PC). Make sure to check out the trailer above and see the preview for yourself!
