It’s been a long time coming but cooperative heists for GTA Online are finally almost here. Shown off via a new trailer released today (see above), Rockstar Games has confirmed that the long awaited feature will be coming in early 2015 for both current, past gen and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V .
GTA Online has received its fair share of criticism since launching alongside GTA V, but perhaps none more pointed than the lack of online heists. The last gen versions of GTA V were first released over a year ago and while the single player mode features different kinds of heists, the online version of these have been delayed for quite some time. Its planned inclusion only a few months removed from the current generation release of GTA V is welcome compared to the year plus that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners have had to wait.
In addition to releasing the new trailer, Rockstar also sat down with IGN for an interview discussing all things online heists. Notably, when they were asked what took so long to bring heists to GTA Online, Rockstar cited difficulties in creating content that kept the focus and action on each individual player rather than one person as is the case in single player.
Eventually they found that a four-player structure was the key towards getting everything to work the way that they wanted. Also, creating the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game contributed towards slowing down progress on the heists. According to Rockstar, the heists that were originally imagined when GTA V was first released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are much different than the ones we’ll be getting in 2015.
With the PS4 and Xbox One versions complete and the online heists almost ready to come off the table, does that mean we’ll be seeing some single player DLC in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see.
