The popular tradition in fighting games during the last generation of consoles, and indeed in games overall, has been to offer console specific characters as DLC. We’ve seen it in various forms to this day, and many have wondered if Mortal Kombat X, the upcoming title from NetherRealm, would have such characters. They were hinted at earlier this year by series creator Ed Boon, but now it looks like there will be no such thing in the next Mortal Kombat game.
Speaking to Hardcore Gamer, Mortal Kombat X executive producer Shaun Himmerick confirmed that there would be no platform specific DLC characters for the title; “We have no platform exclusive characters planned for [Mortal Kombat X].” A strangely blunt response from NetherRealm, who is known for cryptic announcements and language designed to keep information in the dark as long as possible.
Mortal Kombat X has a release window of 2015, and is in development for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
