The Last of Us is a gripping, challenging, and beautiful game. And now that most gamers have had their journey in the post-apocalyptic world dominated my monstrous fungi-creatures, we have a lot to look back and reflect on.
Fortunately, the great creators over at Did You Know Gaming? have provided us with a great video detailing some of the facts behind both the development, release, and execution of The Last of Us.
The video is filled with loads of fun trivia about The Last of Us. Here are a few that might surprise you:
- Naughty Dog almost spoiled their own game before its release by accidentally leaving an easter egg referencing The Last of Us in their demo for Uncharted 3.
- The game draws from lots of zombie and survival-horror movies and books, as one might expect. But The Last of Us also draws heavy inspiration from the Spanish Flu pandemic that stripped the world of huge portions of its population at the beginning of the 20th century.
- Tess was actually supposed to be a villain in the early concepts of The Last of Us. The idea was eventually scrapped because it felt too cliché.
- We almost had to fight an evil fungal infected elephant beast! And they look gnarly as hell too.
The game certainly lived up to expectations after the long and grueling two year process used to create the framework of The Last of Us. But there is so much more that the video didn’t even touch on, like the significance of giraffes throughout the game, which we discussed on Twinfinite in our article about the most emotional gaming moments. How many of the facts and trivia listed in this video did you know, or was any of this surprising at all? Feel free to hash it out in the comments.
