Live Draenor’s History
First thing’s first, a new expansion needs a sweet setting and maybe a little time travel. The Draenor of years past has all the crystalline charm of a Draenei homeland, flavored with all the iron war goodness of a raging Orc legion. Now you’re here, in the setting of chronicled tragedy, quelling the Iron Horde before they rewrite the very history of their bitter demise. Warlords of Draenor starts off on the right foot, delving into the past in a move that is deceptively nostalgic and thematically stirring.
Finally Spend Some Time With the Draenei
The Draenei have a rich, strong history that never really got to shine past their brief debut in the Burning Crusade. Most Draenei players spawn on their new home of Azuremyst Isle, kill some wildlife, then get outta there and head straight to Stormwind. It’s fascinating to explore the Draenei’s history firsthand and finally see this race in the spotlight, and not just because they have magnificent hooves and face tentacles.
Boost to 90: Instant Hero (Just Add Water)
Expansions have always been a sort of upper tier experience, offering new content to those who have already paid their leveling dues. With Warlords of Draenor, there’s never been a better opportunity to jump into a fresh adventure. You can zip any character right up to the required level, and head straight into the epic action without spending hero time killing wild hogs for local farmers.
While it may seem jarring to pass 90 levels of class training and specialization, the Dark Portal quest line awards you groups of skills over time so that you’re never overwhelmed.
Garrisons Are the War-Homes You’ve Always Wanted
Garrisons are the biggest feature to hit WoW in Warlords of Draenor. While you’re fighting off the Iron Horde here in the ravenous wilderness, you’ll be commanding your very own outpost. Plant your flag and direct construction until you’ve got a veritable fortress from which to base your journey. Host skilled followers at your base and send them to defend locals or quell rising threats, gaining rewards while you face Draenor’s biggest foes (or just some temperamental mammoths).
The whole system’s a level of personalization that functions directly with your fighting experience, pairing an epic role alongside that fuzzy hearthstone feeling.
New Character Models
If you come back to WoW, you’ll notice everyone’s looking substantially sexier. Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, and Trolls (and soon Blood Elves) all have updated models and animations. Every beard, claw, and hoof is looking as sharp as ever, so that you can stop the invading forces of evil without looking like 2004.
Get to Level 100 Because You Just Can’t Resist
If there’s any reason to dive into a subscritption renewal, it will at least be because the level cap has been raised to 100. Even if you don’t care to adventure on end like you did in the old days, your deep, neurotic WoW senses won’t allow you to keep all your elite toons under max level.
