Sony is preparing to break into the Chinese market by packaging approximately 200,000 PS4 consoles a year. There’s no official launch date just yet, but Sony is planning to start preparing Chinese consoles in December.
Sony is following in the footsteps of Microsoft. The Xbox One was released in China at the end of September, selling over 100,000 units in the first week of sales. Sony hopes to continue to profit from the PS4, as lagging sales in other areas means the company is ending the year with another annual loss.
It will be interesting to see how the PS4 fares in comparison to the Xbox One in China. This is the first time new video game consoles are being sold to the Chinese public in 14 years.
