Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to Support Free Generation Upgrade

Those thinking of buying any of the popular multi-format titles on PS3 or Xbox 360 consoles this holiday season are faced with quite the conundrum. You go out in November and pick up a copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on your precious and faithful PS3 only to find that, one month later, there’s a shiny PlayStation 4 wrapped and waiting for you. ¬†Beneath the joy there’s a little sadness at having to either buy the game again or wander off to do a quick trade in.

Well it seems that Activision are thinking of you. Digital purchases of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on Xbox 360 and PS3 come with a free upgrade to Xbox One or PS4 versions respectively. As a bonus for Sony users, this actually counts as a Cross-buy so buying a digital PS4 copy brings a digital PS3 version.

The offer of a digital copy purchase which leads to a latest generation upgrade only lasts until March 31st of 2015. All in-game progress, DLC, and weapon unlocks will transfer between consoles at no extra cost. It is also possible to do this transfer at any time, rather than there being a deadline. The aforementioned date is only for when you make the digital purpose so, for example, you could buy a digital copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on March 28th and then upgrade it to a new generation console two months later.

It should be noted that this offer is only for digital purchases. Physical copies will not be open to the same offer.
