In the least surprising chart success since Grand Theft Auto V went straight in at number one, Destiny has topped the charts from the moment of its release (check out our review). It isn’t exactly a surprising. This is the biggest new IP release every to grace British shores. The most successful platform is, unsurprisingly, the PlayStation 4 with 46% of units being sold for Sony’s eight generation platform. The Xbox One was a little behind on 36% with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 making up the rest with 14% and 4% respectively.
The UK Games Chart Top 10 for the week ending September 13th 2014 follows.
2. The Sims 4
4. Call of Duty: Ghosts
5. The Last of Us: Remastered
6. Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition
7. NHL 15
8. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
9. Minecraft PS3 Edition
10. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution
Outside of the top 10 are a smattering of other popular titles including previous number ones Metro Redux (now at 14) and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition (now at 13).
There are a couple of surprises in here though. For example, Minecraft on both last-generation consoles is still holding a firm grip on the chart even though surely nearly everyone has it by now. WatchDogs‘ maintained position can be attributed to the retailer promotions which lead to a 29% boost in sales. Finally, Grand Theft Auto V is still in there but just out of reach, sitting at number 11 even though the release date for PCs and recent hardware has been confirmed for November 18th on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 while the PC release is expected in January.
