Destiny may have received some mixed critical reviews, but that certainly hasn’t seemed to slow down the game’s momentum in terms of sales or consumer interest.
This is exemplified perfectly by the game’s first week views on Twitch, the online streaming site. In its first week, Destiny has been viewed over 20 million times, making it the biggest launch week of any game this year in terms of Twitch mindshare.
David Dague, the community manager at Bungie, had this to say on the massive popularity of Destiny:
“Our community has always blown us away with their desire to share, entertain, and inspire. Watching them broadcast their Destiny experiences on Twitch – from the Tower to the Crucible to the Vault of Glass Raid – has been nothing short of amazing. We’re humbled by the enthusiasm and we hope our community knows we’re watching and laughing and applauding back home at the studio.”
Over 240 MILLION minutes of footage have been viewed of Destiny so far on Twitch, and the game doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. It is great to see such enthusiasm for any game, and for Bungie it has to be even more validation outside of great sales for their vision for the new franchise.
