Hot of the heels of the PS4 release of The Last of Us: Remastered, Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells has given us some details on the thematic direction of the studio’s next installment of the Uncharted franchise.
Many fans feared that Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, game directors for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, would bring the dark and gritty tone of The Last of Us to Nathan Drake’s lighter adventures. Wells explained that Straley and Druckmann will uphold the spirit of the Uncharted series:
“Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons. I don’t think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We’d alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we’ve learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted – in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct.”
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release on PS4 sometime in 2015.
