With a simple eulogy on Bungie’s site, it is officially time to say farewell to the Warlocks, Hunters and Titans that so many of you grew to love during your time with the Destiny Beta. The eulogy is itself a farewell for Bungie Community Manager, DeeJ, in which he says goodbye to his chosen Guardian and the “millions of Guardians just like [him].” It sucks that all that progress that was made during the Beta won’t be transferring into the accounts of the millions of players who took part, but it is in no way unprecedented or out of left field. In fact, the post itself states that the changes revolve around items and features that have been changed or removed that would “[leave] characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”
Everyone had a feeling that the servers were going to be wiped, whether or not they wanted to acknowledge those feelings after the wonderful ten day event is another thing. Coming out of the Beta myself, I wanted to continue the story of my Exo Hunter and his high-powered Golden Gun but even I knew that the chances of that happening were impossibly slim. With a few weeks between myself and that character, I feel comfortable in starting up Destiny in a few weeks to find nothing there waiting for me. I look forward to rediscovering the world that Bungie has built for all of us with a brand new character (at least mostly new, as I did grow to love that blue Hunter). So, for now, enjoy the memories you had with your Guardians, my fellow gamers, until September 9th, when brand new memories will be sure to overtake the old ones.
