Poor Peter Dinklage! Our favorite Lannister (Tyrion, obvs) has recently become the butt of many an Internet joke. His uninspired performance in Bungie’s upcoming FPS Destiny, which is currently in alpha, has spawned countless memes.
He plays your robotic guide in the game, and his voice acting apparently straddles the line between “so bad it’s good” and “just plain bad.” Mostly, it’s his dry delivery of the goofy line “That wizard came from the moon” that has people cracking up. Even Bungie capitalized on this with a limited edition shirt inscribed with the now iconic phrase.
In Mr. Dinklage’s defense, that’s a pretty stupid piece of dialogue. I don’t think even Sir Patrick Stewart himself could make it sound not-stupid. Have a listen for yourself in the short clip above.
But to appease the Internet masses (hell hath no fury like an angry and extremely vocal gamer), Bungie has decided to do another take with Peter Dinklage. According to the Destiny FAQ:
The Ghost dialog has already been updated for Beta. It will be updated again for launch on September 9th, as well…Funny thing about Alpha builds…they’re not done. Please pardon our Moon dust!
Personally, I’m a sucker for camp, but I completely understand if Bungie (and Peter Dinklage!) want to deliver a more polished performance!
