After a tumultuous week of rumors and weird leads by Sony, it has finally been announced what resolutions Watch Dogs will be running on. On their blog, Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs will run on 900p on the PS4 and 792p on the Xbox One. While it’s clear that the game will be running on a higher resolution on PS4, it is comforting to know that both platforms will run the game at 30 frames per second.
Recognizing the disparity between the resolutions and the lack of 1080p, Ubisoft notes
“It is much more important to deliver an amazing next-gen eperience than it is to push a few more pixels onto a screen. ‘Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games, but you make choices about the experience you want to deliver.”
Essentially, Ubisoft is downplaying the importance of resolution and emphasizing that they’d rather that Watch Dogs have a better gameplay experience. While I personally don’t disagree with their philosophy, I’m sure there are plenty who will be upset with the disparity. Oh well, the game is going to sell like crazy regardless.
You can look forward to playing Watch Dogs in just two short weeks on May 27th.
