Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Phantoms has kind of become a surprise minor hit over the last couple of months. Coming from what feels like nowhere, it has established a player base that is nothing to be ashamed of and is, really, just a damn fine tactical online shooter, something that we really don’t have much of anymore, it seems like. So far, Ubisoft has done everything right with Phantoms, but even with its success, it could use a boost of public knowledge. I mention Phantoms to my more hardcore Clancy game fan friends, and almost all of them shrug without knowing what it is I’m talking about.
Which is probably the reason for Ubisoft digging into its biggest franchise, Assassin’s Creed, for some promotional work. Phantoms, according to a press release today, will be getting a limited time only Assassin’s Creed crossover that includes five Tier VII weapons (the Ak-12 SV AC, PKM SV AC, M3A1 C AC, M960 C AC, and M14 Tactical AC), five classic Ghost Recon weapons (the F2000 SP AC, Fiveseven AC, MG36 KV AC, P90 C AC, and Sentinel SR-1 AC), all of which have Assassin’s Creed skins applied. Of course, any Assassin’s Creed add-on has to include the iconic clothing, so three Assassin hoods and tactical suits will be available as well. This isn’t the first time Phantoms and AC have crossed over; the Recon class received an Assassin’s Creed tie-in during the beta.
These crossover materials will be accessible for any class in game, but only for the next three weeks, starting today. So, if you’re a fan of Phantoms or are an Assassin’s Creed fan who’s mildly interested by this add-on, you can get Phantoms for free here.
