Square Enix’s latest game release, Final Fantasy Agito, is out in Japan for mobile devices today. To celebrate its launch, Square Enix Japan released a trailer on their official YouTube channel showing off the game’s battle system and character creation mechanics.
In a nutshell, the game looks great! It certainly looks like a throwback to older Final Fantasy titles where you could explore a town, talk to NPCs, and engage in classic turn-based combat. It would also appear that Final Fantasy Agito‘s battle system incorporates some action-based elements into its system as well. We see a character firing a gun at surrounding enemies, and it looks a lot like the real-time battle system we saw in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII back on the PSP.
Final Fantasy Agito is currently a Japan-only title and is available for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. It’s also worth mentioning that while the application itself is free, it does come with in-app purchases too. There is currently no word on the possibility of a localisation. But given that some of the songs from Final Fantasy Type-0 (which is the universe Agito is set in) will be featured in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, I have hopes that this game will see a Western release.
Famitsu also recently released some videos showing off more of Final Fantasy Agito‘s gameplay which you can check out here.
