Atlus Japan has released another two trailers on their YouTube channel for their upcoming 3DS title, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. This time, they’re showing off some new battle mechanics that will be implemented in the combat system.
First up, it looks like the exploitation of your enemies’ weaknesses is going to be a much more important and strategic move in this entry. In Persona 3 and 4, players would get an additional turn whenever you struck an enemy’s weakness. Persona Q takes it a step further by introducing a Boost mechanic to the combat system. It looks similar to the Smirk system we saw in Shin Megami Tensei IV, whereby characters who hit a weakness will be ‘Boosted’ and will have a higher chance of landing a critical hit in their next turn. It also looks like ‘Boosted’ characters will have a higher chance of dodging enemy attacks.
The second trailer shows off the All-Out Attack mechanic that fans of Persona 3 and 4 would be familiar with. Building up on the new ‘Boost’ feature, whenever a character gets ‘Boosted’, there will be a higher chance of receiving a follow-up attack from one of your allies or initiating an All-Out Attack.
All in all, these little additions to the combat system make Persona Q look like it’ll be a lot more manageable than the brutal Etrian Odyssey series. That’s a relief. For me, at least.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will be released for the 3DS on 5th June 2014 in Japan. There is no confirmed release date for the localized version of the game just yet.
