PAX East – Westerado: Double Barreled Hands-Off Impressions

Adult Swim Games had a handful of new and old games to show off at PAX East this year, and one of the highlights was Westerado: Double Barreled, an updated remake of the original flash game found on their website, Westerado. The game is a unique blend of adventure games and top down shooters, featuring the player as a cowboy on the set of a modern western.

In the gameplay we were shown, players can talk to anyone on the set in classic adventure game fashion, including other actors or the big wig director with a thick European accent  You can even hold anybody at gunpoint to elicit a variety of reactions from each person.

On that note, the shooting in the game is meticulous and decidedly realistic. Players can shoot only left or right and shooting a six-shooter takes a careful process of loading, readying the gun, getting it steady and actually firing. Don’t expect a hail of bullets with this one– it only takes or two shots to take or be taken down.

Westerado: Double Barreled is still in really early production, but it should be turning up on Steam in the coming months. The new souped up version will feature better visuals, more story and content, and tons and tons of new characters. In the meantime, you can check out the original flash game to get an idea of what to expect from this spaghetti and meatballs western.
