God, a Peter Molyneux quote two weeks in a row? It’s like a birthday every time. A birthday on Christmas, except not where I’ve had it all my life and I’ve got used to it. I love it, basically.
While the last public statement from ‘The Bald Eagle’ (as I like to call him) could really have been said by anyone – claiming the indie scene was on borrowed time – this latest one is pretty rich coming from him. In an interview with Edge magazine, Molly took no prisoners in a pretty scathing review of his time with the Xbox One + Kinect combo:
“I actually wish Kinect wasn’t a requirement. It feels like an unnecessary add-on to me. Maybe it’s because we’re in England, and it doesn’t really use the TV stuff, but it feels more and more like a joke. My son and I sit there saying random things at it, and it doesn’t work. They could cost-reduce it [by removing Kinect]. I’m sure they’re going to release an Xbox One without Kinect. It would be unthinkable that they wouldn’t”
Blimey. Not the first thing you’d expect from the man who spent all that time working on Milo, the talking Kinect boy. He always talked about him like he was his son. Now him saying he feels like the Kinect is an ‘unnecessary add-on’ has a particularly grim undertone.
