A while back, we learned that the beta for the new Doom game, thus far only known as Doom and not Doom 4, would be coming to Wolfenstein: The New Order as a pre-order incentive. No other details were given, until now. According to an FAQ posted to the Wolfenstein website, the beta for Doom will be coming to next gen consoles and PCs only, leaving the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in the dust.
The FAQ entry also drops some key tidbits in regards to differences between the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the beta. Pre-ordering The New Order for current gen consoles will get you a code for the next-gen versions of the beta, and perhaps most importantly that Xbox Live Gold will be required for the Xbox One beta, but PS+ will NOT be required on the PlayStation 4.
Though id and Bethesda are playing coy on the issue, I believe this is a pretty good indication that new Doom will be a next-generation/PC only affair. Makes sense, seeing that id only puts forward the best when it comes to technical prowess, and releasing for under-powered platforms would just hold them back.
Wolfenstein: The New Order releases on May 20th, 2012 for 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Doom beta has no announced start date.
