EA Sports revealed today that martial arts icon Bruce Lee will be brought into EA Sports UFC.
According to creative director Brian Hayes, Lee is a “martial artist renowned for his philosophies that laid the groundwork for modern mixed martial arts” and this was what prompted the decision to put him in the game. Art director Ian Lloyds also mentions that EA Sports received many helpful references, including a life-cast of Lee himself, from Bruce Lee Enterprises to aid in this addition to the game.
EA Sports previously released a roster of fighters that would be featured in UFC that included big names such as Forrest Griffin and Chuck Liddell. Throwing Bruce Lee into the mix is an interesting choice, to say the least. The UFC is known to showcase various types of fighting styles such as Muay Thai and Judo, and introducing Chinese martial arts into this game would certainly be a welcome addition. The decision does make sense, considering that Lee was an internationally recognized martial arts icon and Hollywood star in his day. His implementation should help to widen the game’s target demographic as well.
EA Sports UFC has been slated for a release this spring but EA has yet to officially announce the game’s release date.
