3DS Version of Smash Bros. to Receive Exclusive Game Mode

In today’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. would receive an exclusive game mode that can not be found on the Wii U version.

The mode is called “Smash Run,” and is essentially a battle game that is reminiscent of the City Trial mode in Kirby Air Ride.

What will happen here is that four players will start on a giant dungeon-like map. However, the twist here is that while you’ll all be on the same map, you won’t be battling–yet. Instead, players will start on separate corners of the map and traverse the map for a variety of power-ups. Along the way, players will have five minutes to collect as many power-ups as possible, which are categorized by Speed, Jump, Attack, Special, and Arms.¬†While you search for power-ups, players will come across enemies from all sorts of Nintendo games. You will encounter enemies from Megaman, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Pokemon, and more.

Once the five minutes are over, players will enter into battle against each other. This mode promises to be incredibly crazy, as players will be all juiced up by the time they actually get into it. It was noted that these matches will likely not take very long given the powered-up nature of the combatants. Preparation is the absolute key to winning these matches.
