Yoko Shimomura is a lady who, if I met her, I would probably have a total fanboy freakout over. I wouldn’t be able to help it; “Dearly Beloved“, the theme song to Kingdom Hearts (which she does all the music for), is one of most stunningly beautiful theme tunes in gaming history. And it is very piano heavy, a continual trademark of her work in the series and in her long, successful career in general. And now, it looks like, a trademark of her next collaboration with Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura; Final Fantasy XV.
In a special message included for buyers of Shimomura’s 25th anniversary album memoria!, Shimomura promises a piano-heavy score to her Final Fantasy composing debut. And that sounds just fine to me. Piano goes great with pretty much everything, and when done by a master like Shimomura? Even better.
Final Fantasy XV has no confirmed release date. But, you can buy memoria! on Amazon here and get the message for yourself, along with getting a collection of some of the greatest video game music of all time.
