One does not simply become a Master Thief. Presumably it takes years of training and practice to ascend to that rank. But you can start by enrolling in “Thieving 101,” an in-depth look at Square Enix’s upcoming Thief.
Developed by Eidos Montreal, Thief is a soft reboot of the popular PC stealth franchise. Scheduled for release on February 25 of this year, Thief will be available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The newest 6-minute “trailer” introduces the player character—Garrett—and shows off some of the sneaky things he can do.
Picking pockets, cracking safes, you name it. The trailer teaches you the tricks of the trade and presents the many approaches you can take to get the job done. Like in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you can choose to kill your enemies or complete the game peacefully using non-lethal take-downs.
I confess, I wasn’t that excited about Thief because, to me, it looked a lot like Dishonored. And the comparison is apt: the setting, a Victorian city plagued with disease, is nearly identical. But if this trailer is any indication, Thief is shaping up to be a much better stealth game, one that’s more like Deus Ex and the original Thief series. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks!
