Zombies aren’t totally out of style yet, it seems. After the success of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Tim Carter, series creator and writer/producer at Contradiction Films, seems to have begun working on a new web series based on Capcom’s Dead Rising franchise, as was revealed in an interview featured on EP Live. Critics have praised Legacy for its original narrative adding new twists to the familiar franchise, so assuming the Dead Rising web series carries through, we may expect great things.
My only concern is that it’s more zombies, which after being in grand surplus for several years now, is finally dying down in popularity. However, with a hefty dose of clever writing, any recycled genre can be revitalized and turned into something very special.
Similarly, Mighty No. 9, a Kickstarter project game by Mega Man series creator Keiji Inafune, may be receiving the silver screen treatment, in collaboration with Carter. Although, that’s not all; Inafune is hoping to create an entire franchise off of the intellectual property across as many media as possible, including a “comic book, manga, anime, movie, TV drama series.” At the moment, the script for the live-action film is only being written up, but we’ll let you know if it gets the go-ahead.
Do you think a Dead Rising web series would do well amid the library of zombie media, or has the trend died down just enough to leave room for this? Are you as excited to see what is done with the Mighty No. 9 property? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
