If you have seen the roster for any Super Smash Bros. game, you’ll know that near all the characters are wildly different down to their fighting styles. As such, when Mario’s standard attack had him give the ol’ one-two, finishing off with a sweet kick for good measure, other characters like Pikachu and Fox were left in a seemingly endless little flurry of jabs that hardly did any damage, nor did they translate very well into combos. Thus, those moves wound up largely ignored by the Smash Bros. community. However, this is no more.
Lead game director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed on Miiverse that characters will be receiving their own satisfying little attack combo, like Mario, Link, and Marth. According to Sakurai, “consecutive standard attacks will now always transition into a finishing move,” which means great things and a change of strategy for many players. In the image above, that kick is Fox’s finishing combo move being used on poor Samus. But the rest of the characters’ finishers have yet to be revealed.
Finally, I can follow up Peach’s bitch slaps with something even more punishing. Prepare yourselves for the day of reckoning when Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS is released later this year. We’ll be sure to let you know when the official release date is announced.
In the meantime, you can check out the latest episode of Twinfinite Loop where Yami, JC, Muaz, and I talk about what the future of Super Smash Bros. and more!
