Assassin's Creed Sequel Won't Be in Japan

Cue the sighs of disappointment. In a recent interview, Ubisoft’s managing director Jade Raymond discussed the Assassin’s Creed series and revealed that next installment will take place in her favorite historical age but denied rumors that it would be set in feudal Japan.

“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” Raymond says. “If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”

The Assassin’s Creed series has taken players to the Crusades, to the Italian Renaissance, to the American Revolution, and the Golden Age of Piracy. If pattern follows, the next game will be announced in the coming months and will be released this fall. Where would you want the next game in the series to go to?
