Bandai Namco announced today that they will indeed be bringing the 2D Side-Scrolling actioner, Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day to North America and Europe in 2014.
There’s a lot of interesting things about this title, so bare with me. Rank Tsukigime’s Longest Day is actually part of an animated anthology titled Short Peace from director Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira. Short Peace will also be released in the west so you’ll be able to view the whole collective work in its entirety.
Now the game itself is produced by Grashopper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and developed by Tokyo Jungle‘s Studio Crispy. Basically those two names were enough to have me interested in the title when I first learned of its existence in Japan, but as you can see in the above trailer, just looking at the insane gameplay has me begging for its immediate release into my hands (it’s only a dirty joke if you think about it like that. I bet you’re thinking about it like that now). Below is Bandai Namco’s summary of the game:
High school girl by day, assassin by night. The perfect setup for this frantic side-scroller directed by Suda 51 of Grasshopper fame. This PS3 exclusive follows the story of the titular Ranko Tsukigime as she evades the clutches of a shadowy power that’s clawing at her heels.
Each level is a race to outrun Ranko’s enemies while also dodging obstacles and defeating baddies who get in her way. Fall behind, and Ranko will be swallowed up by darkness before beginning the level anew.
I can hardly wait.
