Have you played a Borderlands game? If you haven’t, go do so. They are some of the greatest co-op games of the last console generation. If you have; remember that sweet, sweet feeling of satisfaction you got when you opened up a shiny (or, rather, rusted and grimy and red) new loot chest and filled up your inventory to bursting with sweet new digs for shooting shit? Yeah. You do. Now imagine this; what if you didn’t have to go searching for loot chests in the game to get those aforementioned sweet new digs for shooting shit? What if the WORLD was a loot chest? Or, at least those dumb little useless QR codes were.
Sounds ridiculous, right? But it’s not. Released today by Gearbox Software, the LootTheWorld app, found for free on the App Store and Google Play Store, allows you to turn any QR code (and, in this writer’s experience in testing the app, any barcode you can find on literally every product known to humankind as well as friggin’ images of QR codes found via Google search), and translate it into loot for your character in Borderlands 2. Here’s how to do so;
- Download the app (duh).
- Log into/Create your own SHiFT account (can be done inside the app or here)
- You’ll find you start with three stamps. These stamps are like currency for the app, and can be traded in for sweet loots for your characters.
- Scan QR codes (or any other kind of code, apparently) to gain more stamps.
- Trade in for loots.
- Repeat ad nauseam. The nauseam, in this case, is the vomiting up of comically overpowered and colorful firearms.
You have 20 slots in the app for storage in case an item you get is too high a level for you, and you can discard at will. Good luck, and may the loot be with you.
